This past weekend we went to Red Hook in Brooklyn and I went on one of my periodic photowalks put on by Photograpals, a casual photography club here in New York City. Every two weeks we visit a new neighborhood and go for a short walk around, taking pictures as we go.
My favorite walks have all been along the water: Brooklyn Bridge Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, Queens, and now Red Hook. We had an unseasonably warm and sunny day and ended the photo walk along the water just in time for sunset.

The photo above is actually from Greenpoint where we were before leaving for Red Hook. Another great water-adjacent neighborhood, but completely the other side of Brooklyn.

There were an impressive number of vintage cars in the neighborhood. Maybe it’s just a bohemian thing or maybe there’s lax parking regulations. Incidentally, the city impound lot is in Red Hook, it’s so large you can clearly see it on Google Maps full of hundreds of cars and motorbikes.

Not really sure how an old MBTA streetcar ended up on the Red Hook waterfront but someone installed it on an old rail line and has left it to the elements and graffiti. It has quite a few holes in the floor, so beware!

The sign above is from Sunny’s Bar, a classic cash-only dive bar in the bottom left corner of the neighborhood that was packed and offered live music.
