Looking at looking at art at the Met

I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York a few months ago and decided that, as a photo subject, the crowd was as interesting as the art.

I feel like I saw a photo series a while back where the patrons looked like the subjects in the paintings which is what inspired me – it’s probably from this guy – that and the realization that it’s nearly impossible to get a clear shot in one of the Met’s special exhibitions (I’m not complaining, I’m there to look first, take pictures second). Interested to hear your thoughts.

All of the above were from the Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature exhibit, which ran from February to May 2025, while the photos below are of the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts atrium nearby.
